Cessation Charges Explained

Service
Keywords: cessation | cancellation Summary: Details about BT Wholesale's cessation charges.

What is a cessation charge?

'Cessation' is the industry term for 'cancellation'. From 8th September 2008 BT Wholesale introduced a cessation charge that applies whenever a broadband service is cancelled.

How much is the charge and when does it apply?

From Wednesday 29th October 2008 we'll apply a charge of £20.00 (inc VAT) if any of the following occur:

  1. The telephone line which your broadband service is provided on is ceased. Reasons for this may include:
    • A name change on the BT bill.
    • You are moving to a new address.
    • You are moving to a different supplier for a telephone service (e.g. cable operator).
    • A dispute between yourself and BT Retail.

  2. Your broadband service is completely cancelled.
  3. Your broadband service is cancelled as a result of a house move.

When will it not apply?

The charge doesn't apply if you've requested a move to another provider using a MAC Key. In this case your broadband service isn't cancelled, it's just transferred between service providers.
