Domain Management

Tools
Keywords: pop3 | smtp | domain | renewal | choice | settings | configure Summary: A guide to the Domain Control screen – here we'll show you how to modify the way your domains work.

Here we'll show you how to configure your domain and explain what the different options mean.

Go to Domain Names in the Member Centre and click Configure to see the page shown below:

Domain Control Panel

  1. Email settings
  2. Domain hosting settings
  3. Additional DNS records
  4. Renewing your domain

1. Mail settings

POP3 - I want to collect my mail using POP3

Any email sent to your domain will be delivered to the corresponding mailbox on your account.

SMTP - I want mail to this domain to be delivered to my static IP by SMTP

Advanced users whose accounts have a static IP address can have mail directed to their own server.

Other - I wish to specify DNS records for mail to this domain

Advanced users who operate a mailserver on another network can have mail directed there.

2. Domain hosting settings

Default - I wish to have this domain hosted automatically under my webspace.

Visitors to your domain will go to the webspace root, which is what you see at http://www.your-username.plus.com/

Directory /htdocs/

You can use this feature to point your domain to a separate subdirectory of your webspace. This is handy if you are hosting several domains and want each of these to have a separate website. To use this feature:

  1. Connect to your webspace, create a new directory and upload your files to it
  2. Add the directory name to the Directory box
  3. After 8-12 hours visitors

Other - I wish to specify DNS records for hosts under this domain

Advanced users who wish to direct web traffic to another webserver can use this option.

3. Additional DNS records

Any DNS records that you add are shown here. You can add new records by clicking Configure DNS records.

For more help with this see our Manage DNS Records guide.

4. Renewing your domain

Here you can choose what happens to your domain when it reaches its expiry date.

We can either renew the domain for a further two years or allow it to expire.

Check renewal prices on the Domain Costs page.

If you choose to have the domain renewed, we'll do this automatically 30 days before the domain is due to expire. If you do not make a renewal choice then we'll renew your domain as per the above.

If you choose for us not to renew the domain, it'll be suspended for a short time and then made available for others to register.
