1. What is Fax-2-Email?
This is a free-to-activate service which lets you receive faxes by email. This means you don't need a fax machine. Instead, when someone faxes your number you'll receive the fax as an email attachment.

2. Do I get Fax-2-Email automatically with my account?
Not all accounts have access to Fax-2-Email. Please check your product's features list for more details.

3. How do I activate Fax-2-Email?
If your account features the Fax-2-Email service, you can activate this by:

  1. Visiting your Email Settings and click on Fax-2-Email.
  2. Entering an email address (if you want your faxes to go to an address other than your default one).
  3. Clicking Activate to get your Fax-2-Email number.
  4. Then write down your fax number and forward it to your contacts.

4. How long does it take to activate Fax-2-Email?
Fax-2-Email may take up to 4 hours to work after you've activated it.

5. What type of fax number will I be given?
When you active Fax-2-Email you are automatically given an 0870 non-geographic number.

6. How much does it cost to send faxes to my Fax-2-Email number?
This is a national rate number, meaning anyone who faxes it will be charged at BT's standard national rate.

7. Can I send faxes using Fax-2-Email?
No. Fax-2 Email can only be used to receive faxes.

8. Am I able to change the email address my faxes are sent to?
Yes. Faxes are automatically sent to your default email address. However you can change the address to which they are sent by visiting your
Fax-2-Email setup page.

9. Why has my Fax-2-Email service been deactivated?
If you don't use your Fax-2-Email service for more than 3 months, it is automatically deactivated. You can simply reactivate this again if you want to.

10. If I reactivate Fax-2-Email will I get the same telephone number as before?
No. If you've reactivated the service you will be given a new number.

11. What format will I receive faxes in?
When someone sends a fax to your Fax-2-Email number, it will arrive in your inbox as an attached .tiff file. You can then open this with any image-viewing software which displays these types of files.

12. Can Fax-2-Email be used from outside the UK?
In most cases no. However, some international carriers do allow calls to be made to 0870 numbers from outside the UK.

13. Once I've received a fax can I forward it?
Yes. You can simply forward fax emails as you would do normal emails. The attachment can then be opened again and the fax read.
