Forte Free Agent is a very popular freeware program which gives access to the thousands of USENET news articles. Both easy and quick to setup, Free Agent has a number of useful facilities. It lets you browse newsgroups both on and off-line and allows particular messages to be downloaded later. Read our guide to see how to.

Setting up USENET in Forte Free Agent

1. Open Free Agent. Click Options and choose General Preferences.

2. Click the System tab and enter these details:

1. news.plus.net in the News Server box.
2. relay.plus.net in the Email Server box.
   

3. Click the Dial-Up tab and tick the boxes as shown below.

1. Make sure that your PlusNet dial connection is displayed in the Connection box.
2. Enter your username and password in the User Name and Password boxes.
   

4. Click the User tab.

1. Enter your email address.
2. Enter your real name. (Enter your organisation if required). Then click OK.
   

5. Now connect to the Internet with your PlusNet connection. So that you can see the news available, click Online from the main Agent menu and choose Get New Groups. This will take a few minutes to complete. When it has finished you will see all the groups you can subscribe to with PlusNet.

5. To subscribe to one of the groups simply right click on it and choose Subscribe.
